it's starting to sink in

today i drove to work and found myself daydreaming about painting my new bedroom in the House I Love. don't get to move in until mid-January, but the daydreaming has begun in earnest!

then i thought about how to furnish the 2nd bedroom, a kind of hybrid office/guest room. i thought about where to put the desk, and where to put the bed for guests, and how to arrange it so there would be room to have both, and suddenly i realized that this room had another purpose. it was not actually going to be an office/guest room at all!

and i thought -- OMG i'm actually going to have a child in my new house!!

and the child will have her own ROOM. with furniture and clothes and stuff! and i get to shop for all that stuff and make it just the way i want it to be!! (at least until Sprout gets older and exerts her own will.)

i have been thinking quite a lot about schools and adolescence and transracial families and some heavy topics, so this realization was like a breath of fresh air.

i'm so excited!!!!

I am just getting caught up on your blog. That is so great that you got the HYL. The porch is great! And now your baby will have her own room! Yay!
Congrats on the start of your adoption.

It's amazing to think of having a new person in you family no matter how they arrive. It won't really start to sink in until you start to buy possesions for her... then you really know it not just you anymore!
