Timing of Finding Out My Court Date

Just spoke to the program director at my adoption agency.

She said it may be a few weeks before I know my court date - we are going into a period on the Ethiopian calendar a couple of big holidays, so things are slowing down quite a bit. And before I can get a court date, my documents (and the Sprout's documents) have to be "legalized", which takes some time.

I asked how many a "few" weeks is, and she said it could be 4 to 6 weeks (on the long side). Could happen sooner, though.

There - that was an update. And look, ma - no whining!

:-)

I can imagine that it would be really, really hard to see her face and not be able to be with her. You must be just about jumping out of your skin!

When we adopted Sparkle, we actually knew our court date about two days before we got the official referral!

Waiting is just hard, no matter what, I suppose.

When I was in the midst of Russian adoption I always wanted the truth. Good for you for asking what a "few" meant. I probably would have taken that as a literal three and then been disappointed.

Even if it's a long time, it's nice to be given realistic expectations.

Whine away when you need to! We all did. That last stretch of waiting is awful - you have a face, you know she is getting older each day and you are missing it because of silly holidays and bureaucratic stuff.

Hope you get your date sooner rather than later!

Congrats!

I'm curious how it works though. How much notice are you given in order to purchase tickets, pack, etc. And when will you start to ask for maternity leave?

I ask this because I haven't a clue so I thought I'd ask ya'll about this. What are you doing? When did/do you start making arrangements with work?

Since I haven't a clue when I'll get a referral, it's hard for me to tell the office I'll be taking maternity leave 'sometime in 08.'

So how did you (and the other single gals) do this?!?!

I hope the wait for a court date is shorter than you're expecting. I prepared myself for a long wait, so it was a pleasant surprise when things went a bit more quickly.

I really wish we were still allowed to take pictures for each other at the orphanage - I would love to do that for you. I will keep my eyes peeled for Sprout. If there's any way possible, I'd love to at least be able to spy on her a little for you :)

Don't ever feel bad for getting antzy with the waiting! It's so hard as you know who little sprout is and her beautiful little face. I traveled 24 days after our positive court date. So start packing your bags as time will come sooner then you think. Kim Pasion

Congrats. I've been reading you for a long time, following as you have given me hope that it can be done. As a single gal, i thought I was destined to be childless forever, nice to know its not true.
