last homestudy visit...
... was yesterday. Phew!
Very glad to check that off the list.
Short version:
It went well. My social worker said she'd get me a draft NEXT week to look at and then finalize. woo hoo!!
Long version:
I was inordinately concerned that my social worker would care about the many still-to-be-unpacked boxes and other imperfections about my home. She couldn't have cared less.
She cared more about:
1. Safety (I have a smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, 2 fire extinguishers, and latches on kitchen cabinets where potentially harmful things are kept. Also I used to be a lifeguard, and I know CPR, so that helps).
2. Neighborhood (residential, very kid-friendly)
3. Diversity of my community (overall, too white, but I do go to an awesome black church, and I expressed my willingness to move to a more diverse community if it would be the righ thing for my child)
4. My plans for providing my child with appropriate role models (I've got decent plans for connecting my kid with people of color, but I don't have enough men in my life apparently. Like I didn't know this?)
5. My plans for providing for my child in the event I kick the bucket (I've got - thank GOD - wonderful wonderful people willing to take care of my child in the event I buy the farm before he/she is grown. They are my very good friend Elizabeth and her husband Alex, who are fantastic parents, and whom I trust absolutely. And I've gotten a nice big life insurance policy and am putting all my assets into a trust for the benefit of Sprout...)
6. My plans for childcare (full-time nanny - although how I'm going to find this person, I don't yet know...)
7. Discipline (I don't believe in physical discipline, and we talked about development stages and what is appropriate at what stage).
etc. etc.
In most areas, I passed with flying colors. She told me that I should plan to provide adult male role models on a regular basis, and to start thinking about how to do that. I guess I might need to re-activate my eHarmony profile. :-)

you can bring sprout to the farm and sprout can hang out with brian and learn how to weld : )
I actually commented on this earlier but it's gone awol. I dont' remember what I wrote - probably something pithy & frightfully clever about having to find male role models when I can't even find a date.
CONGRATULATIONS on completing your interviews!!
Oh sweetie, sounds like you passed with flying colours!!!!!
Heck, I'll be your nanny ! lol
On a serious note.........
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad that part is behind you!
My social worker never once asked about safety in the home, the diversity of the neighborhood, nor how we or our family felt about becoming an interracial family. I had to volunteer that info to her. She was more concerned with why I didn't tell her my own mother is a social worker. I told her "I didn't tell you because you didn't ask". lol... Sounds to me like you got a good one!
For the male role model if you cannot find a mate how a about big brothers?
